Trinity Community Table (TCT)

Objective

The objective of the Trinity Community Table (TCT) is to provide the community of Cambridge with a free, hot, nourishing, noon meal on an ongoing basis in a warm, non-threatening environment, as long as the need exists.

History

TCT started operations on May 1, 1992 as a result of the concerns of a small group of Cambridge citizens. Six guests turned up for the first serving. Over the years numbers have grown. Approximately 300 meals are now being served each week, an average of 95 to 100 served each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Management

Board Members of TCT are people from the community who wish to participate in providing this most needed service. The affairs of TCT are overseen by a Board of Directors, elected at the Annual Meeting by the Members. An audited Financial Statement and the Report of the Board of Directors are presented at the Annual Meeting. The Board meets a minimum of six times a year to conduct the affairs of TCT. All financial and material gifts are used entirely to meet the objective of TCT. The Board and all volunteers provide their time without remuneration. No government funds are solicited for or received by TCT.

Operations

Meals are provided in the Parish Hall of Trinity Anglican Church, 12 Blair Rd., Cambridge. TCT is also supported by other churches, and by non-church organizations and many private citizens. Midday meals are served at 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, except for Good Friday and Christmas Day. Depending on the availability of supplies, guests are also provided with sandwiches to take away with them.

Most holidays are recognized by a meal appropriate to the season, including a Christmas dinner, which has been appreciated by the guests.

Three teams of volunteers prepare, serve and clean up after the meals. Other volunteers, managed by a Volunteer Coordinator, pick-up and deliver donations of food, and purchase food and other supplies.

There is a continuing need for regular and occasional volunteers. Donations of food and other consumables, from restaurants, stores, supermarkets, and individuals, on a regular or occasional basis, are always welcome.

Please contact 621-8860 for more information. Financial donations from churches, organizations, or persons, for either specific or general purposes are gratefully acknowledged. Tax receipts are available for all monetary donations. The support of the community is vital for the continued operation of TCT, and is greatly appreciated by the Board and the guests.

TCT Volunteer Appreciation Tea

Each year, the Board of Management of TCT honours the many people who volunteer their time to bring this vital service to our community.
